Welcome

Published by admin

Hello, and welcome. I’ve set up this site as a place to publish my first public attempt at story crafting.  I’ve experimented for some time and decided to use a serial format for this effort. I’ll be using Commentpress for the weblog’s theme (while hoping someone will write some better looking variants soon) and asking for feedback. Currently, I have two stories in the works. One is what I hope is dark fantasy and the other is sci-fi. I’m taking this from the way authors such as L.E. Modesitt and Glen Cook (and too many others to list) tend to work in both genres at the same time. I how both challenge the reader to think in ways outside the mundane. Much of this undertaking is an effort of creation in place of consumption.  Thanks for the interest.  I hope you find some enjoyment in the contents.

I have a few objectives for this project:
1. To gain experience by writing several story arcs using the same world and multiple characters.
2. To maintain momentum.  In other words: it doesn’t have to be perfect, but it should be cohesive.  One of the issues I’ve dealt with in the past, in my writing, is that I often go over it again and again, looking for perfectly written text.
3. To use a medium (Wordpress + Commentpress) to let friends pass on their impressions of the material.

I’m certain this list will grow as I delve deeper into the craft and identify weak areas I need to strengthen.  I will update it as necessary.  As for the stories, the first two are the recurring ideas which have been haunting me for years and need to be on paper (or as pixels).  Please enjoy.

Specters of Ang
At the behest of the Bak emperor, the Mindak governs Suvva Bak and is tasked to complete the empire’s eastern expanse to include Jaen Isle. Krava has fortified their western border in preparation for conflict and Sarketsa, Krava’s southern neighbor and religious cousin, guards the Shallow Sea and western shore of the island in support.

The Mindak knows his time is limited before he is ousted and a younger man put in his place. As part of his effort, he has developed inhuman forces to terrorize the populace of both countries in an effort to undermine the combined effort he faces. In response, the Duke of Ang, as a representative of Sarketsa, has fashioned an elite unit designed to locate and destroy these threats. Thorn Galbreth knows the Mindak personally and has sworn his life to end the man’s existence. He hopes, through this unit, that he can keep his promises to the living and the dead…

Aghna
A fantasy world I’ve worked on for some time (15 years, as spare moments offered) and finally had the chance to begin accumulating the various work on the project.  This will be my portal for developing and narrating that world.

Regarding Tomorrow
A social futurist (speculative fiction) site I’ve been working on for a while.  Finally found the tools and time to put it all together.  Includes narratives from a range of authors.  The site will also include a shared blog at http://currents.regardingtomorrow.com.

Writing Journal
Finally, if you are interested in hearing about my growth as a writer, follow the link above. I plan to blog any important insights I have in the journal. Good to keep track of the self as it strives against inventive limitations.
